2 Corinthians 10:5

”2 Corinthians 10:5” is a collection of poems centered on taking every thought captive and surrendering them to God. These pieces explore the battle of the mind – doubts, fears, temptations, and anxieties – and the freedom that comes when we choose to align our thoughts with God’s voice instead of our own.

Sin pt. 1

Sin is a thing of which we must be aware,

It’s something that can bring us to despair.

It’s enticement can be hard to ignore,

It can quickly become something we adore.

It’s easy to give in to it’s devious ways,

But we should never forget to pray.

It can bring forth guilt and shame,

And break us down to nothing in its game.

We must stay strong and remain firm,

And remember that we are God’s term.

He will forgive us for our guilt and sin,

If we ask for His love, we can begin.

Sin can be hard to bear,

But we must keep in prayer.

God will show us the way,

So we can have a brighter day.

Sin pt. 2

A sin can be so small,

A tiny little thing,

But the consequences of it

Can cause the heart to sting.

It can start with a thought,

A word or a deed,

And before we know it,

Our spirit starts to bleed.

It can start as a spark,

And before we know it,

It’s a raging fire

And our conscience won’t let us quit.

But God is so merciful,

His grace can cover it all,

No sin is too great,

And no one’s too far to fall.

He can set us free,

From guilt and shame,

His forgiveness is great,

And we can be redeemed.

Seasons

Fall is my favorite season

Everything seems right

The weather is perfect

The leaves change into beautiful colors

The air has a crisp smell

Perfect for bonfires

And the sunflowers are perfect

Fall is my favorite season

I feel close to God

I can see him working

I can hear his voice

I have this explosive fire

He is all around me

Filling my life with his blessing and beauty.

Winter is a still season

It is cold and unmoving

Everything stops

There is no growth

Everything is stuck in one spot

There is ice all over

But there is still beauty

Winter is a still season

I know God is there

But there is no movement

I make no effort to reach out

There is no growth

I am stuck where I left off

But I can still see his beauty in what’s around me.

Spring is a growing season

Everything is given life

The dead comes to life

New lives enter the world

Beautiful flowers pop up slowly

The perfect morning dew

The amazing sunrises and sunsets

Spring is a growing season

I feel God’s presence around me

I dive into his word

I give him control

Slowly

His warmth brings new life

And his beauty fills the earth and my life.

Summer is a blazing season

Everything is in full bloom

Heat is everywhere

The sun is at it’s highest point

The need to cool off

The need for relaxation

But everything constantly in motion

Summer is a blazing season

My heart is on fire for God

I serve him everywhere I am at

He is most present in this time

I see him at work in the lives around me

His work is relaxing

But I’m still thirsty for his water in this heat.

Am I Worth It

I hear voices in my head every day and night,

Saying “How can people stare at you,

What an ugly sight,

Do they like what they see,

Such an ugly face,

How are you supposed to cope with this,

Why do you take up the space,”

They say “Your ugly and fat,”

Then when I think to myself,

About all these things,

I think, “Am I worth it?

Why am I here?

Why am I putting up with all this?

All the crap of this world

No one wants me

No one gives a crap

I’ll end it

I’ll end it now

Quick

Pointless

I’m not worth it.”

But then there’s another voice,

It says, “You’re beautiful.”

It says, “You are made perfectly,

So why do you doubt,

Why do you think all these things?

You were created in My image,

You are as beautiful as the sun,

As fit as your faith,

And as passionate as can be,

And you are worth it because,

I made you the way that you are,

As perfect as can be,

You are beautifully and wonderfully made,

And you are worth it.”

Reality

I sit in my room by myself,

Back up against the door,

Voices coming through from the other side,

Talking about what I had done.

My hands stained red,

My clothes ripped to sherds,

My heart beating out of my chest,

My head in my hands,

Pain in my eyes as tears roll down my cheeks,

I pick up a book and start reading,

I learn of a man who died for me,

I look up,

A bird sits in my window,

Pure and white,

Singing a beautiful son,

I hear it say, “Open the door

That blocks the way home,”

I stand up and open the door,

A blast of light fills the room,

I open my eyes to see a man,

Pure and white,

Saying “Welcome home.”

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit moves like water,

It feels like a rush of energy surrounding me,

Like I’m being pulled to it,

It moves fast but seems slow like a painting,

It brings life to the fresh air,

Like a spring morning,

And flowers and grass,

I can feel it brushing my skin,

Leaving a peaceful chill,

It flows like a river,

I can float around it,

I feel like I’m dancing on air,

When I look at all the living things,

I see it living within them,

It gives me hope,

Because at some point,

There will be hard times,

Sorrow,

Pain,

Loneliness,

But in the end,

It brings beauty to everything,

The Holy Spirit is within you.
