Poetic Technique Collection

This collection showcases a wide range of poetic techniques – from ghazals and haikus to imagery-rich verse, sound devices, and book-inspired pieces – highlighting the craft behind each form. It’s a space where structure, creativity, and experimentation come together.

Ghazal: Storm

I love the smell of rain after a storm,

I love the feel of rain during a storm

Anxiety can come and attack,

The pain can come like a mental storm

Heartbreak comes like a flash flood,

Tears leave a stain as the calm after the storm

Standing up on that stage with no words to say,

A frozen brain as if it were stuck in a winter storm

God loves and protects and knows what’s best,

His blessings we gain like the beginning of a storm.

From the book 1984: Winston

I would be more like Winston,

Being trapped in a world where you can’t share your own thoughts,

Your own feelings and emotions,

Never being able to fall in Love or be Loved,

Never knowing when you’re safe,

Living a lie that is controlled by the government,

Having to change history so They are always right,

Learning how to not think,

Learning how to fake your body language,

Learning how to watch out for children,

In fear that they can destroy your life in a split second,

Constantly living in fear,

Constantly being watched,

Constantly being listened to,

Never truly living.

I would be more like Winston,

Being a rebel and being brave,

Going against all odds to fight,

Fight for what is right,

Knowing his true worth,

Knowing he might die for what he believes in,

His willingness to think,

His willingness to act,

His willingness to sacrifice,

Learning how to Love,

Learning how to be Loved,

An ordinary man trying to do unordinary things,

He expresses his feelings and emotions,

He learns to have peace, freedom, and compassion,

I would be more like Winston.

Figurative Language: Dance is a Home

Dancing is a home

It gives me peace

It brings happiness

It brings comfort

It is full of compassion

It gives me relief

When I dance I am like a leaf

Falling from a tree

Light and calm until

You hit the ground

But the audience will bring you up

With all the cheers and applauds

Dance is a home.

Figurative Language: Singing is a Breath of Fresh Air

Singing is a breath of fresh air

It is perfection

It is soothing

It is faith

When you sing the whole world stops

All they do is sit in awe

Singing is a breath of fresh air

You can breathe life into things

The first note is like a flower that has just bloomed

But when you hit the wrong note it will die

But because of singing you can bring it back to life

Because singing is a breath of fresh air.

Sound Device: What Am I?

Dipping my hair in the paint,

Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh, I go across the paper,

Moving gracefully,

Moving fluently,

I am dancing across the canvas,

While dancing, I am creating a masterpiece,

My own original design,

Boom,

I get washed away by water,

That is flooding my masterpiece with rage,

As I fall to the ground,

My masterpiece still lay,

Upon the table that was soaked by doomsday,

A long time has passed and my masterpiece is gone,

But to the sink I am thrown,

For maybe one day I will be used again,

To create a masterpiece,

For I am just a brush.

Imagery: Water is Beautiful

It felt like a rush of energy surrounding me,

Like I was being pulled down,

It looked almost like a painting but it went by too fast,

It smelled like the fresh air on a spring morning,

All the flowers and grass barely wet from the light drizzle,

The taste of it barely hitting my mouth was like a simple kiss,

It sounded like an avalanche roaring after me,

When I drink it, it flows like a river,

When I swim in it, it feels like I’m dancing on air,

When I look at all the things living in it,

It makes me want to be with them,

Because at some point,

There will be a hurricane, a tsunami,

It will become scolding hot it burns,

Or so cold you could freeze to death,

But in the end it is a beautiful thing,

Water is beautiful.

Rhyme Scheme: Snow

The way it falls from the sky,

With its beautiful white,

Colors, it made me sigh,

For what a sight,

The way every piece,

Is unique,

As it hits our face,

Yet it is so weak,

How we can packed,

Smash, hit, and war,

The way we attacked,

Falling to the floor,

It will put on a show,

Oh how I love snow.

Haiku: Three of Life pt 1

Light beaming through clouds

Hitting the wet mist just right

Making a rainbow.

Haiku: Three of Life pt 2

A never ending,

Circle, life threatening bridge,

What is love to you.

Haiku: Three of Life pt 3

Drawing a picture,

A bird landed on a tree,

In Colorado.

Open Ended: Fear

Fear,

A face covered by hands,

Shaken to your knees,

A puddle of tears,

Fear is a black hole.

Two Toned: Red and Purple

Part of me is passionate red,

Loving and devoted,

Affectionate and moving,

Dancing my heart out for the Lord,

But I am more than just red,

I am purple like a plum being created,

Original and imaginative,

Gifted and moved,

Creating a life on a canvas,

Even though they are simple colors,

I am most definitely not.

Five Senses: Trust is Emerald

Trust is Emerald,

It sounds like wind blowing through sales on a ship,

It feels like someone holding you close,

It smells like the ocean waves,

It tastes like sweet strawberry lemonade.

Original: The First

When you look at the sky what do you see,

The beauty and grace God gave you and me,

When you look in my eyes what do you find,

God’s love which will blow your mind,

What do you see when you look at my church,

You see all the healing from the hurt,

What do you see when you see the cross,

You see God’s reminder that he loves all of us.

Prophetic Oracle: I’m Right Here

I know what you are looking for,

Let me help you,

Look at me, I’m right here,

You can’t ignore me for long,

I know you can’t,

You can barely last ten minutes,

Don’t you want me,

Just walk over here,

Pick me up, give me all of you,

And then I’ll trap you,

Trap you in a world of confusion,

Criticism, rage, hate, and destruction,

I can ruin your life in an instant,

I can ruin your self-worth,

I can ruin your relationships,

With temptation,

With jealousy,

With your deepest, darkest desires,

I know what you say,

I know what you look at,

I know what you want,

And I know how to get you there,

Just pick me up,

Just look at me,

After all, I’m just a phone.
